RI.5.2: Determine two or more main ideas of a text and explain how they are supported by key details; summarize the text.
In order to determine the importance of an event in a text, young readers must understand what they already know about the events that are taking place. If readers are learning something new from the text then they should highlight the event as important. The young readers must use their prior knowledge to make sure that the information they are reading is important to them.
