Questioning is a comprehension strategy that allows readers to engage actively with the text. Good readers ask themselves questions. Asking questions sets a purpose for reading. When young readers read more deeply, they are driven to find answers. The technique, itself, is when the teacher asks the students several questions about the text to help the student get to engage and find deep meanings that are found in the text. After a few practices, the student should be able to come up with questions themselves and answer them. Once the student has developed the technique asking themselves questions about the text, they should be able to find the deeper meanings within the text.
