Synthesizing is a comprehension strategy that is similar to summarizing where the reader separates the non-essential information and essential information. When synthesizing, the readers need to use the essential information and place their own knowledge to describe why it is important. The reader merges the key details and the existing schema. The reader should also use the important information they have chosen, and describe how the information relates to one another.
